Among the 1,500 exhibitors at this year’s PlastIndia trade show, LyondellBasell had a distinct advantage.
"We received more than 3,000 visitors to our booth," said Mitchell Killeen, LyondellBasell’s Vice President of Polypropylene and Polyethylene in Africa, the Middle East and Indian Sub-continent. "With our global leadership in polyolefins production and technology, and our competitive asset footprint including capacity available from the Middle East and Asia, we are strategically positioned to effectively address the needs of a rapidly-growing country."
The six-day trade show, held in February in New Dehli, gave LyondellBasell the opportunity to showcase its local expertise, marketing know-how and extensive resin portfolio for a growing region.
According to Michael Vogt, LyondellBasell’s Marketing Manager for Pipe in Asia Pacific, "We showed customers that we are well-positioned to serving the needs of this expanding part of the world with our innovative product portfolio, our extensive application knowledge and our local presence."
As incomes rise among rural populations, India is experiencing strong demand for polypropylene and polyethylene. Consumer goods have seen above-average growth rates, and food packaging continues to experience firm demand, as buyers require higher food safety standards. Piping systems that transport gas and drinking water are additional applications with growing demand.
At LyondellBasell’s booth, customers expressed strong interest in the company’s new range of specialty polyolefins and Spherizone process-based homopolymers, heterophasic copolymers and random copolymers. These resins are used by customers worldwide in applications such as rigid and flexible packaging, pipes, housewares and furniture, electrical and electronics, and textiles and fibers.
Also attracting customer attention were the company’s new high density polyethylene (HDPE) resins produced using the Hostalen Advanced Cascade Process (ACP). By utilizing cascade reactor technology, multi-modal resins based on the Hostalen ACP technology offer a unique combination of product properties that are unattainable with conventional uni-modal or bi-modal HDPE grades. Hostalen resins address customer needs for high performance characteristics in pipe, steel pipe coating, film, blow molding and caps and closures applications.
