            TWIM with a twist

A new Clyrell PP copolymer allows manufacturers of thin-walled injection moulded (TWIM) packaging to create clear, low-temperature impact-resistant containers - without the use of plastomers.

            Combining raco and heco performance

Created using Basell's metallocene-catalysed process technology, Clyrell EM248U, is extremely pure with low levels of volatiles and oligomers. It combines the clarity of a random copolymer with the impact performance of a heterophasic copolymer.

“Previously, processors have relied upon the need to add plastomers to conventional PP random copolymers in order to achieve the desired impact and clarity for TWIM applications,” said Amit Gupta, customer project manager for Basell’s Metocene global business unit.

“By using Clyrell EM248U, a lot of the guesswork is eliminated from injection molded thin-wall applications."

            Labelling and printing

The improved impact performance allows containers to stand up to labelling processes such as off-set printing and in-mould labelling.

Clyrell EM248U’s high heat deflection temperature also enables it to retain stiffness in hot-fill applications.

Typical applications for this grade include food packaging applications requiring refrigeration and/or freezer impact performance such as soups, salads and sliced fruits.
